HEADROOM

"Nose". The Headroom. Jan 31, 2007.

I've been thinking about my Wildlife and Fisheries degree alot lately...more to figure out how it has influenced what I am doing these days than reminiscing. I do miss some things about it. I miss being outside, and I miss fieldwork. The hands-on. So, I ventured over to campus and spent a little while in an old classroom...the "Headroom". I always loved this room (for obvious reasons). I stopped in to see if it was unlocked, and lo and behold it was, so I snapped a few shots. I'd like to spend some time in there with a proper camera (someday I will have a proper camera). For now, this is my favorite of the batch.

CHEAP/GOOD WINE

WINE - Shop Window, Prague. October 2007

We went to Atlanta over the Holiday break for some time away from town, shopping, etc... Over the past couple of months we have heard the expression "Two-Buck-Chuck" on several occasions to refer to cheap wine. I assumed it was bad, cheap wine and wrote it off as an expression. Well, come to find out it is indeed a real wine, and it can be bought at Trader Joe's shops throughout the country. We went to Trader Joe's to buy some groceries and were surprised at the other prices as well. Things we normally pay $7 for here at places like Earth-Fare were around $2 at Trader Joe's...I couldn't believe it. We are seriously thinking about driving to Atlanta every couple of months to stock up on cheaper essentials. Believe it or not, it would save us money. I have always been appalled at the prices for groceries in east TN...in particular in the grocery stores on the north end of town. We can shop out west for the same items and pay less than the same items on Broadway. I have always heard it's because they raise prices in poorer parts of town because they make money on food stamps. I don't know if that's in any way true or not, but I do know that we pay more when we shop close to home. Well, this wasn't meant to be a post on grocery prices, but more to talk about cheap / good wine. Two-Buck Chuck indeed. Link below:

    FURBEARERS

    Fox/Bobcat. The Swag, NC. 2007

I was struck by these two guys sitting on a mantle. More and more my Wildlife and Fisheries degree seems to be creeping in to my design career. It's odd how two seemingly unrelated fields start to inform each other more and more as time passes. I saw these two images paired together and like the way they interact. There are so many variables. Just the fact that a false sense of emotion is placed on these two animals by human interference is interesting, but add to that the fact that they are sitting next to each other in a way that makes them "react" to each other in a totally false environment. I want to explore some of these relationships more...the idea of nature versus environment...the way that environments shift depending on the state of the creature in that environment and the state of the viewer...also the circumstances in which things are viewed. Blah blah blah. It's two wild creatures in a comfortable sitting room. How odd. I guess I'd have the same expressions on my face.

    THANKS LOX!

We had a blast at Lox. Thanks for a nice night, and thanks to those who stopped in. Luke9 and the Rude Boys were fun, and Luke did a tasty Loudon Wainwright III cover. Nice. Names were drawn for 3 collages that will be given away...winners will be contacted real soon. They will be on the walls all month, so go see 'em if you want. After this, they're going, going, gone...
